Viognier and Chardonnay together are probably going to make a wine with some oomph, and there is an indulgent ripeness about this blend from the south-western estate of Clos Triguedina.
The wine was inspired by Juliette Baldès, who represents the eighth generation of the family as she follows on from her father, Malbec master Jean-Luc; and the name 'vin de lune' recalls a time when the workers in the fields harvested some of the grapes at night to avoid paying the full burden of taxes due to the lord of the manor.
As the wine opens up in the glass, the honey and violet notes of the Viognier evolve and assert themselves in delicious length, leaving you in no doubt that this is a very worthy addition to the Triguedina portfolio. It has enough body and concentration to suit poultry, ham and pork dishes as well as fish and seafood, but also the poise and grace to make enjoying it on its own a singular pleasure.
